The Background

Planned Parenthood Mar Monte (PPMM) is the largest Planned Parenthood affiliate in the U.S., providing a range of health care and education across 34 health center locations in mid-California and northern Nevada and advocating to advance reproductive freedom and health equity for all.

Our Approach

Building from a period of organizational and operational renewal, PPMM partnered with Afton Bloom to develop a three-year strategy focused on sustainable growth as the organization expands its geographic footprint, reach, and impact.  
 
Afton Bloom worked closely with PPMM's leadership team and Board throughout a highly collaborative strategic planning process. Inputs to the strategic plan included "deep dive" sessions with each PPMM functions, review of core service provision data, and a geographic market assessment to define a set of data-informed strategic priorities. The strategic plan was also developed with significant input from external stakeholders with expertise in the field. To address rapid changes in the policy and economic environment, Afton Bloom engaged the PPMM's Leadership Team in a scenario planning exercise as a core part of the strategic planning process.   

The Result

To support PPMM's mission of providing health care and health education and expanding rights and access for all, the organization's refreshed strategic framework elevates three key strategic goals to guide the organization's work: 

1. Drive health equity in California and Nevada, through expanded health care coverage and services, innovative digital platforms and partnerships to scale PPMM's educational programming, and targeted advocacy in partnership with PPMM's communities to advance and protect PPMM's work. 
2. Advance the forefront of SRH across the U.S. as the largest Planned Parenthood affiliate, through further innovation, dissemination, and adoption of field-leading models for sexual and reproductive health and education and efforts to safeguard California and Nevada reproductive freedom leaders in the evolving post-Dobbs environment. 
3. Optimize PPMM's model to enable sustainability and growth, through continued advancement of PPMM's commitment to health equity and inclusion and PPMM's operating, business, and development models.
